O.R.P.A Moves into Matchams
The 23rd of this month will see yet more changes at Matchams with an all new O.R.P.A designed motocross track getting its first airing with the Southern Motocross club.
The whole objective behind the design is to allow club riders of varying abilities and ages the chance to enjoy the Matchams experience on a circuit that is far less demanding than the main GP track. Over the last decade O.R.P.A has become a well established organization with an excellent record and this addition to their ever increasing portfolio will compliment the GP facility at Matchams and is hoped will bring a wider selection of riders to the popular south coast venue.
Southern Motocross impresario Tony Ford formed O.R.P.A in the early nineties with The then owner of Matchams the late Reg Slack and since Reg passed away has taken over the running of the organization from SMX HQ in Worthing.
In planning the all new circuit Ford has carefully managed to regain a substantial amount of land for English Nature allowing for the natural regeneration of heather and wildlife which has co-existed on the land for many years.
Anyone who is familiar with the SMX tracks at Elvetham, Pighill or Horsham will find a similar blend of jumps, banked bends, the odd drop off and table top coupled with a wide and flowing feel to the circuit which gels together with the natural flow of the land.
In a unique agreement between O.R.P.A. and Matchams the track will be available for any club to hire for race meetings right throughout the year and will run parallel to the GP track for practice sessions on Wednesday and Saturday 10 til four. With direct on site catering and toilets the track and paddock area will be totally self contained with a new track office situated next to the start.
